Short Review
Among the groups of Circle Lychee, many of which have dark atmosphere in their concepts, VILLAINS HOUSE has still more gothic atmosphere. The members’ stage name are too long but so remarkable and so suitable to their concept as to easily remember. Also, the members had already completely builted up their own visual image at their debut concert.
Most of their songs are inspired by villains in the history or famous fictional stories. The song “Jack the Ripper” is inspired by a famous serial killer of London. In the “Bloody doll”, the alias of Mary I of England “Bloody Mary” appears. The motive of the song “Junjou Aria” is the novel “The Phantom of the Opera.” Those who are into gothic-horror stuff and traditions of villains will be addicted to all of the stories. In addition, the lyrics of “Bloody doll” is written by Shizuki Renge from Mercuro, and also “Junjou Aria” is written by Kouya Zera from Mercuro.
The members have beautiful capability to realize their concept on the stage. For example, Claire Kokoro is in charge of the story teller in their stage talk and produces the gothic atmosphere by her solemn speaking. Es Strigoi and Sukophilia Ravenyaka show the mannish aestheticism in their hairstyle, makeup and clothes. Especially, Kokoro sometimes posts her own analysis for their songs’ sotories and motives on her social media, showing her deep affection to the products of the group. In addition, we cannot talk without mentioning Mei Mellow’s outstanding vocal skill with her characteristic sharp and edgy voice. (Marumoto Minoru)
